About Us

The Peace in the Park festival promotes peace and understanding by bringing together communities through artistic, musical and vocal expression. Peace in the Park is organised by a group of artists, musicians, students, events organisers and other everyday Sheffield folk, working together in a not for profit collective

The 2011 festival is set to go ahead on Saturday 4th June back on the Ponderosa, and will be the eigth Peace in the Park, which each year collects money for nominated good causes. The festival is funded by money raised in advance, so look out for these fundraisers to help make the festival happen, and have a good old knees up too!

Last year Peace in the Park did a radio show on Sheffield Live, to listen to the broadcasts go to the Peace in the Park podcasts.

Peace in the Park 2010

A third year on the Ponderosa and some beautiful weather led to a fantastic day for all who came along. The giant letters (Peace, Love, etc.) were back again, the bands provided music to keep people dancing all afternoon and £1400 was raised for the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Lukemia Appeal and Osotua – supporting Massai women struggling with droughts.

Peace in the Park 2009

Peace in the Park returned for the second year to the Ponderosa, where despite the unkind weather, festival goers had the wicked time that they have come to expect, and £2000 was raised for Village Aid and Nomad.

Peace in the Park 2008

In 2008 we raised £3000 for Art in the Park, Ben’s Centre and Chernobyl Children Lifeline. The festival moved to the beautiful Ponderosa Park in Upperthorpe and it was right good!

A short video, showing off some of the fun from the 2008 festival on the Ponderosa:

Peace in the Park 2007

Peace in the Park returned to Endliffe Park amongst slavering sea monsters, poetical pirates, brilliant bands, searing solo-musicians, delightful DJs, coruscating comedians, demonic drummers, face-painters, films, fantastic food, and much more festival fun! See Flickr and Indymedia for pics. We raised over £3000 for Sheffield Assist and Stepping Stones Nigeria!

Peace in the Park 2006

In the enchanting surroundings of Sheffield General Cemetery the festival entertained huge crowds. We raised £1500 and the money was split between Heeley City Farm, a local environmental education project, and Goal, raising funds to provide essential facilities in refugee camps in war-torn Sudan. See news and pictures from the fest:

Peace in the Park 2005

We raised about £1500 for our nominated charities the Sheffield Archer Project, a charity providing support for the homeless, and the Intermediate Technology Development Group, an international charity working on practical ways to end poverty for people in need all over the world. The festival was in The Sheffield General Cemetery between Ecclesall Road and Cemetery Road.

Peace in the Park 2004

In 2004 the festival moved to the lush Endcliffe park, giving enough space for the festival to accomodate a live stage, open-mic stage, healing area, democracy cafe, dance tent, kids area and many more stalls. Money was raised for Assist, a charity supporting destitute asylum seekers, and WaterAid.

Peace in the Park 2003

In 2003 the first Peace in the Park was held on Devonshire Green in Sheffield City centre, evolving from grassroots protests in opposition to war. The festival hosted a venue for local bands, artists, musicians, campaigning groups and members of the public to come together in unity, making a solid commitment to peace.

Dear Peacers, if you’re having another bash at the Ponderosa, please don’t let the soundsystems on the top field play at a stupidly loud level. There’s loud and then there is stupidly ear damaging noise nuisance loud, and I like my rock bands! Motorhead sound like a gnat’s buzzing in comparison to the top field sound systems! And please don’t have an overnight party on the Ponderosa, like you did last year. I enjoyed the festival but was kept awake the rest of the night, and was not a happy bunny the day after. Can’t you find a night club to hold the party at?

      Hi,
We are not having any sound systems on the top field this year so no need to worry about noise coming from there. We have also scaled back the size of the remaining sound system too. Not sure what party you are referring to after the festival? All the organisers & volunteers from Peace in the Park were either out partying in town or getting some sleep in order to get back to site early the next day to continue clearing up! Do remember the Ponder Rosa is a public place and if members of the public decide to gather and create noise there is very little we can do about it.

If you enjoy coming to the festival why not get involved and help us out with stewarding or even overnight security as this might help reduce the chance of any noise being created after the festival?

Hi, I’d like to have a stall selling art work at the event. Is this going to be possible this year like last year?
